Having some challenges with integrating your smart scale to Apple Health or Google Health Connect? We're here to help!

How do I connect my smart scale to Google Health Connect?

First, it is helpful to understand how data flows from your smart scale into Carbon. When you step on the scale, a set of measurements are created. Those measurements are sent to your smart scale's app, which is then sent to Apple Health or Google Health Connect, and then to Carbon! Why is this important to know? Because understanding where your numbers go can help troubleshoot if there is an issue with not seeing those data points populating into the Carbon app.

It is also important to know that Google Health Connect is relatively new! Google is currently phasing out Google Fit while pushing Health Connect as the new standard for bi-directional health data syncing. Due to this, many apps integrations are either not working correctly or have not yet integrated with Health Connect, so may need to complete a few steps in order to get syncing working as expected. Here are a few examples of popular brands and additional support resources.

Withings

Fitbit Aria Air

Renpho

  • Your Renpho app should integrate directly with Health Connect. Please ensure that you are on the latest version 6.5.0.

Garmin

  • These scales currently do not have a direct integration with Health Connect (we invite you to contact them an request it) so you will need to use an intermediary app. We recommend creating a free account with Fitbit and connecting Fitbit to Health Connect.

Note: A popular (one-time fee) app to simplify syncing health data across apps is called Health Sync. We are not in anyway affiliated with this app.

Troubleshooting

Q: Are your apps connected to Health Connect but you still aren't seeing your data in Carbon?

A: To ensure the integration is active, please visit Settings > Integrations to enable the appropriate integration based on your device. On the next screen, there will be a button that you can tap to "Allow access" if you haven't done so already. The app will prompt you to enable Apple Health or Google Health Connect permissions. If you don't enable them at this time, you can still enable them anytime by revisiting this screen. To manage the integration further, you can also open Apple Health or Google Health Connect and alter permissions there. You can then verify that the data is in Health Connect.

Q: Are you seeing duplicated data being pulled in to Carbon?

A: This commonly happens when you have multiple integrations pushing data in to Health Connect. Please review your Health Connect data by going to the Me tab, then tapping Weight, then the upper right hand corner time symbol to see your weigh-in values. From there you can find out which apps are sending the duplicated data then adjust your settings in those respective apps.
