How to Reset a Check-In

Fix a wrong weight entry, incorrect compliance answer, or accidental check-in and get your targets back on track.

Written by Carbon Diet Coach

Can I undo a check-in in Carbon?

Not from inside the app. Carbon does not currently support self-service check-in resets. To reset a check-in, contact the Carbon support team through the in-app chat on the Coach tab or by emailing support@joincarbon.com.

When should I reset a check-in?

You entered the wrong weight. Transposed digits, used the wrong unit, or accidentally used a previous day's reading. Ensuring the correct weight is entered on your check-in day is key to an accurate progress review.

You selected the wrong tracking option. The tracking confirmation screen is the most important step in the check-in process. If you selected "I tracked everything I ate this week" when your logging was incomplete, or indicated non-compliance when you were actually on target, the adjustment Carbon made was based on inaccurate information. A reset lets you resubmit with the correct answer.

You weighed in under inconsistent conditions. Weighing in after a meal, after a workout, or at a different time of day than usual can produce a reading that may not reflect your true weight. Carbon treats that number as accurate and adjusts your targets accordingly. A reset lets you weigh in properly before resubmitting.

You checked in by accident or too early. If you tapped through the check-in before you were ready, the support team can roll it back.

Your new targets dropped or jumped sharply and something feels off. If the adjustment does not match what you expected from your week, reach out. Sometimes a reset is the right call. Sometimes the targets are correct and the support team can walk you through the reasoning.

How to request a check-in reset

Contact Carbon support through the in-app chat on the Coach tab or at support@joincarbon.com. To help the team process your reset as quickly as possible, include:

  • The date of the check-in you want reset

  • What went wrong

  • Any additional information that may be important context

What happens after a check-in is reset?

Once your check-in is reset:

  • Your previous calorie and macro targets are restored

  • The check-in is removed from your check-in history

  • You can redo the check-in whenever you are ready with accurate data

If you already started eating to the new incorrect targets for a day or two before the reset, that is fine. Return to your previous targets and continue normally. A day or two of slightly different intake will not significantly impact your overall progress.

How to avoid needing a check-in reset

A few consistent habits go a long way.

Weigh in under the same conditions every time. First thing in the morning, after using the bathroom, before eating or drinking. Consistent conditions produce consistent data and more accurate target adjustments.

Double-check your weight entry before confirming. Pay particular attention to the decimal point and the unit. Pounds and kilograms produce very different readings.

Select the tracking option that most accurately reflects your week. Carbon's coach uses your tracking confirmation to decide how to evaluate your data. An inaccurate answer leads to an inaccurate adjustment. When in doubt, choose the option that most honestly reflects what happened.

Connect a smart scale through Apple Health or Google Health. Automatic weight syncing eliminates manual entry errors entirely. If you use a smart scale, connecting it to Carbon means your daily weigh-in data syncs automatically without any manual input. See Apple Health Integration and Google Health Integration for setup instructions.

If you are not ready to check in, wait. Missing a check-in does not reset your evaluation method. It is better to skip a week than to submit data you will need to undo.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a check-in reset take?

Most resets are completed the same day, often within a few hours.

Will a reset affect my compliance streak?

It depends on why you are resetting. If you are resetting to correct inaccurate data and resubmitting with accurate information, your compliance streak is preserved as it was before the check-in being reset.

However, if you are resetting because you want to hold your targets steady for another week without Carbon reviewing your progress, you will need to select a non-compliant option when you resubmit. Doing so will prevent Carbon from making any adjustments, but it will affect your compliance streak. Keep in mind that marking non-compliant also resets Carbon's progress evaluation back to the start and end weight method for that week (if not using the Coach Trend Weight feature), so consecutive compliant weeks will be needed to return to the rolling average evaluation.

If you are unsure which approach is right for your situation, reach out to support@joincarbon.com before resubmitting and the team can help you think through it.

I already ate to the wrong targets for a day or two. Is that a problem?

No. After the reset, return to your previous targets and continue normally. A short period of slightly different intake will not meaningfully affect your progress.

What if I entered the wrong weight but cannot remember the correct one?

Reach out anyway. The team can reset the check-in based on the date and you can weigh in fresh under proper conditions before redoing it.

Can I reset a check-in from several weeks ago?

Resetting older check-ins is more complex because subsequent data may depend on them. Contact support and the team will review the situation and let you know what is possible.

What if my targets feel wrong but I am not sure a reset is needed?

Reach out to support@joincarbon.com and describe what you are seeing. The team can review your check-in data and help you determine whether a reset is the right call or whether the adjustment is accurate given your data.

Additional details

  • Check-in resets are a clean rollback. Your weight history and total goal progress stay intact. Only the single check-in event is removed.

  • The tracking confirmation screen at check-in is the most consequential step in the process. Taking an extra moment to select the most accurate option saves the need for a reset later.

  • Marking non-compliant after a reset will hold your targets steady but will affect your compliance streak and reset Carbon's progress evaluation method for that week. Reach out to support if you are unsure how to proceed.
