What is Weight Maintenance?
Weight maintenance is the phase where you've hit your target weight and want to stay there. Carbon sets your calories at your total daily energy expenditure, the point where intake matches output and your weight stays stable. It's not just a holding pattern. Done right, maintenance improves metabolic health, reduces diet fatigue, and makes your results last.
Is weight maintenance harder than losing weight? For many people, yes. Most diets don't teach you how to maintain. Carbon does, by giving you a personalized calorie target that adjusts as your body and activity level change.
Where to find Weight Maintenance in Carbon
Select Weight Maintenance during onboarding when Carbon asks about your goal. To switch from a different goal, go to the Coach tab, and then tap Change goal.
How to maintain your weight with Carbon
After you select Weight Maintenance, Carbon sets your daily calorie and macro targets to match your current energy needs. These targets will be higher than what you had on a fat loss goal. That's intentional. Eat to them, check in weekly, and let Carbon confirm your weight is staying where you want it.
Select Weight Maintenance on the goal screen during onboarding, or update via Coach tab > Change Goal
Enter your current weight when prompted
Log your food daily and hit your calorie and macro targets consistently
Weigh in daily, or as close to daily as possible. The more data Carbon has, the more accurate your adjustment recommendations will be at each check-in
Complete your weekly check-in so Carbon can track your trend and fine-tune your targets
A common mistake when switching to Weight Maintenance is continuing to undereat out of habit. Eating too far below your maintenance calories slows your metabolism and makes long-term weight stability harder. The new targets are higher for a reason. Trust them.
Frequently asked questions about weight maintenance
How many calories do I need to maintain my weight? It depends on your weight, body composition, and activity level. Carbon calculates your total daily energy expenditure and sets your targets accordingly, then updates them as those factors change.
Why is my weight still fluctuating on Weight Maintenance? Some week-to-week fluctuation is completely normal and driven by water retention, food volume, and stress. Carbon tracks your trend over time, not individual weigh-ins, to give you an accurate picture.
When should I switch to Weight Maintenance? When you've reached your goal weight and want to stabilize before moving to a new goal, like muscle gain. Maintenance is also a smart reset between dieting phases.
