See Your Remaining Macros While Adding Food

Keep remaining calories, protein, carbs, and fat visible as you add food, and preview what a serving leaves before you log it.

Written by Carbon Diet Coach

The Remaining Macros toolbar keeps your daily calorie and macro budget visible while you add food. It shows the calories or kilojoules, protein, carbs, and fat remaining for the diary date you are working in.

What is the Remaining Macros toolbar?

The Remaining Macros toolbar is a strip that sits in the add-food flow and shows how much of your daily target is left. It updates as you log, and it can also project what a food would leave behind before you add it. Instead of adding a food and then checking whether you went over, you can see the impact first and adjust the serving while you are still on the profile.

How to view your current remaining macros

  1. Open the Diary tab and go to the date you want to use.

  2. Tap the blue + beside a meal.

  3. Look below the meal navigation and above the food search. The toolbar shows your current remaining energy, protein, carbs, and fat.

The values are the selected day's targets minus the food already logged. The toolbar stays visible while you search and updates after each food is added.

How to preview a food before adding it

When you open a food, recipe, or drink profile, the toolbar can preview what would remain after adding it, using the serving currently shown on the profile.

  1. Open a food, recipe, or drink.

  2. Check that the eye on the toolbar is lit. A lit eye means the projected preview is active.

  3. Change the serving amount or unit. The projected remaining values update with the serving.

  4. Review the food and tap the normal add button when you are ready.

A first-use message may say Previewing macros remaining after adding this food, recipe, or drink. You can dismiss it with the × without turning off the preview.

Switching between projected and current remaining

Tap the eye on a food, recipe, or drink profile to switch views:

  • Lit eye: projected values after adding the displayed serving.

  • Dim eye: current values before adding the displayed serving.

Carbon remembers this choice on your device for the next profile you open. The search screen always shows current remaining values, since no single food is being previewed there.

What do red or negative values mean?

A negative value means the selected day is over that calorie or macro amount. The number and progress track turn red so the overage is easy to spot. The toolbar is informational only: it does not change your targets, your serving amount, or the food you are adding.

How to turn the Remaining Macros toolbar on or off

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Tap App preferences.

  3. Open Remaining macros toolbar.

  4. Choose Enabled or Disabled.

Disabling it hides the remaining totals while adding food.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I not seeing the toolbar?

The Remaining Macros toolbar does not appear when the setting is disabled in App preferences. It also does not show while you are adding recipe ingredients or adding an item to a Smart Logger draft.

What is the difference between projected and current values?

Current values are what remains right now, before adding anything. Projected values show what would remain after adding the serving currently shown on the profile. Tap the eye to switch between them.

Does the toolbar change my targets or my food?

No. It is informational. It does not alter your daily targets, the serving amount, or the food you are adding.
