Staying hydrated is a crucial part of your health and wellness journey. The Carbon app makes it easy to track your water intake and ensure you're staying on top of your hydration goals. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to track water in the app and some tips on understanding your hydration status.

Tracking Water Intake in the Carbon App

Search and Add Water to Meals:

  • Open the Carbon app and navigate to your daily meals.

  • Use the search bar to type "water."

  • Select water from the search results and add it to your current meal.

  • Enter the amount of water you consumed (e.g., 8 ounces, 1 liter).

Create a Custom Meal for Water:

If you prefer to track water intake separately, you can create a custom meal.

  • To find this feature, tap settings > customize meals.

  • Turn on up to 7 meals by sliding the toggles of the meals you want to blue.

  • Edit each meal name by tapping on the meal name. Create a new meal labeled "Water." Be Hit “Save” once you named the meal.

  • Use the search option to add water to this custom meal.

  • Track your water intake throughout the day by entering the amount consumed in the custom meal.

Understanding Hydration Status

Hydration needs can vary greatly from person to person. Factors like climate, genetics, work type, exercise level, food intake, and sodium consumption all play a role in determining how much water you need. Given these variables, it's hard to give a one-size-fits-all recommendation for water intake. Here are some tips to help you monitor your hydration:

Environment: Consider the climate, humidity, and temperature you live in. Hotter and more humid environments typically require higher water intake.

Genetics: Some people naturally sweat more than others. If you're a heavy sweater, you'll need to drink more water.

Type of Work: Manual labor jobs often require more water than office work due to increased physical activity.

Exercise Output: Your water needs increase with the intensity and duration of your exercise.

Food Intake: Higher carbohydrate diets and sodium intake can affect your hydration needs.

A practical way to gauge your hydration status is by checking the color of your urine. Generally, mostly clear to lemonade-colored urine is a good sign of proper hydration. If your urine is dark, it might be time to drink up!

By keeping these factors in mind and using the Carbon app to track your water intake, you can stay hydrated and support your overall health and fitness goals.
